- Shri. Vineet Joshi has been serving as the Secretary
in the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, India, since 26 December
2024. Previously, he held the position of Chief Secretary of Manipur and served
as the Director-General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which oversees entrance
examinations in India. He also served as the Resident Commissioner of the Government
of Manipur. On 14 February 2022, IAS Vineet Joshi was re-appointed as the Chairman
of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), a position in which he was later
succeeded by IAS Nidhi Chhibber.
- He completed his schooling at Annie Besant School and
Government Inter College (GIC) in Allahabad. Joshi earned his undergraduate degree
in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and later pursued a Master of Business
Administration from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.
- A 1992-batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre, he began
his career in the Youth Affairs and Sports Department in Manipur. In 1999, he joined
the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as a Private Secretary. From 2000 to 2001,
he served as a Private Secretary in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
- He was appointed as the Chairperson of the Central
Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) twice, first in late 2010 and again in 2022.
On 7 May 2023, the Government of Manipur appointed him as the Chief Secretary of
Manipur, a position he held until 25 December 2024. Subsequently, on 26 December
2024, he assumed office as the Secretary in the Department of Higher Education under
the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
