Prof. D.G.Rao is Director of CIIL from August 24, 2016 onward. He did his
M.Sc. in Zoology with Marine Biology Specialisation from Andhra University,
Visakhapatnam in 1977. He obtained Ph.D degree in Zoology (Science) from Utkal
University, Bhubaneswar in 1984. He has been working on the Ecology and Faunal
diversities of Meiobenthos of Chilka Lagoon, Bhitarkanika mangroves and fresh
water bodies in Orissa state since 1978. He had published about 25 research
paper in the reputed national and International journals. Two candidates have
obtained Ph.D. degrees under his guidance from Utkal University. He also worked
as the investigators of the research project entitled “Ecological studies on
Macro-, Meio- and Ichthyofauna of Bhitarkanika mangroves funded by Dept. of
Environment & Forest, Govt.of India during 1991-1995.

He had participated in number of national and international conferences. He has
been teaching at graduate and post graduate level since Jan.1982 in RIE,
Bhubaneswar. He teaches mainly general Zoology, fisheries and Environmental
Biology, and he also worked as coordinator and I/C of population awareness
programmes, advocacy programmes, training of key resource persons for the
Eastern and NE states and also conducted research in population education and
Adolescent Education. Many research projects have been completed in the areas of
reproductive health.
- He has been associated with various PAC programmes
either as coordinator or as resource person in the areas of Science Education,
Environmental Education. Other administrative tasks that he was involved are I/C
academic section to look after admissions, student’s issues, etc and worked as
advisor, student’s council to guide and organise various students’ activities.
He has also worked as residential and non-residential warden of the students
hostels
